The time that Watkins spent in San Francisco was productive and enjoyable for him. He traveled the area in an open wagon and set up his equipment at each location. He photographed San Francisco as a burgeoning and enticing city. In this 1864 view from North Point, his darktent can be seen in the lower right foreground. Once again, Watkins creates a beautiful composition.
