Below are copy prints of original stereographs. On the back of each is noted "Original in a collection owned by Carleton E. Watkins and now the property of his daughter, Julia Watkins, of Woodland, Yolo Co. Photographic copy made and presented to St. Lib. by Ralph H. Anderson, Box 457, Yosemite National Park. 1/26/51".
Additional information courtesy of Weston Naef:
Ralph H. Anderson met with Julia Watkins on September 11, 1949 in an apartment on the second floor of the parsonage of the Methodist Church at 2112 Second St. in Woodland, CA, near the 81 acres that were deeded to Watkins by Collis Huntington, and that had been rented for agricultural purposes by Frances, Collis and Julia (who were all recorded on the deed) . Anderson located the whereabouts of Julia through Mabel Gillis, who was at the time, California State Librarian. A summary of the meeting was recorded by Anderson and is housed in the Yosemite N. P. Library.
Anderson saw the following items: 1. Oil-on-canvas portraits of Watkins's parents (now housed in the Ononta Historical Society and reproduced in Chasing Aurora, Chapter Two), 2. Album of photographs presented by Watkins to Frances before they were married (now Bancroft Library) 3. Engraved cameo portrait of himself presented to his mother (Reproduced in Chasing Aurora, Chapter One; present whereabouts of the cameo unknown), 4. "A small collection of stereos" described as Redwoods at Russian River, San Francisco, Cliff House, Photographic Wagon, Fair exhibit showing Watkins prints.
Anderson arranges for Julia to visit Yosemite for the first time in October 1949, when an interview with her is recorded and transcribed. On November 19, 1949, Anderson wrote to Julia saying, "We are still working on copying the interesting stereos of your father's collection, as well as the album and Bentley's Handbook." (copy of the letter is in YNP Library)
